Jim Merklin serves middle-market and high-growth clients in a variety of industries.  He has extensive experience in employee benefit plans, business planning, financial forecasting, attestation services, fraud/forensic investigations, and internal control and operations reviews.  He has performed numerous special projects for clients, such as feasibility studies, cash flow analyses, due diligence on business acquisitions, and profitability studies. 

Jim was with Ernst & Whinney from 1986 to 1989 and with Hausser & Taylor from 1989 until he joined Bober Markey Fedorovich in 1997.  He was elected a partner in 2003. 

His specializations include employee benefit plans/ESOP/403(b) plans, SEC attestation and advisory services, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), manufacturing/distribution, and retail/consumer products and services. 

Jim received a BS in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University, and a Master of Accountancy from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.  He is a recipient of the Dean’s Award for high scholastic achievement.

 Among Jim’s many professional and civic memberships are the following: AICPA, Ohio Society of CPAs, Executive Committee of AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Audit Quality Center, AICPA 403(b) Plans Task Force, Chairman of PKF North American Employee Benefit Plans Committee, former president of Employee Benefit Council of Northeast Ohio, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Chairman of Community Support Services, Inc., Audit Committee chairman and immediate past chairman of Goodwill Industries of Akron, former treasurer of Rotary Club of Akron, Secretary of NEOUCOM Foundation Board of Directors, graduate and class vice president of Leadership Akron Class of 2003, and former chairman of PKF North American Network Manufacturing/Distribution Committee.
